| Companions
She watched them silently from behind the stones. She wondered if they even knew that this place was sacred with its towering circle of stones placed so perfectly on the small lake isle. She doubted they were the devout type. Still, they did not seem to be a threat and she had been far too long without company.
An amused smile crept over her somber features as she watched the human pulling his catch from the lake. A flip of his wrist tossed the silvery scaled catch towards his companion. A chuckle escaped her when the drunken dwarf caught the fish with a resounding wet smack across his head. From the slurred curses that followed, she presumed he was more the halfway through the bottle he clutched tightly. His hands were steady as he cleaned the prize though.
She stepped into view carefully, both men were well armed and drunk or not she must assume they knew how to use the weapons they wore. “Elune’s Blessing on you both,” she called softly. The firelight danced against her deep blue robes and she lifted her arms to remove the cowl from her face slowly, exposing her pale skin and blue facial markings.
The dwarf gasped in shock and paled before regaining his composure. Her sharp eyes caught the flicker of recognition and it gave her hope. He recovered himself quickly. “Well ‘lo there lass. You caught us by surprise for a moment there.” He nodded towards his companion and both offered her a smile. “I’m Asaoirc and this rascal who was sleeping instead of keeping watch is Crag.” The wolf gave her an interested sniff from his position near the fire before promptly resuming his nap.
“And I’m called Vanadar.” The human stepped closer to greet her and this time she blinked in surprise to see the cold light of death in his eyes. “Care to share our fire?” Both of them watched her curiously, wondering why she was out here all alone.
“I’m called Myrrin and if you care to share the fish you caught I’ve some cheese and fresh bread to go with it as well as a bottle of wine.” Gathering the cooking pot she found laying close to the fire, she started preparing the fish without waiting for a reply.
“What brings you out here Myrrin? Bit far from town for a priest dontcha think?” Asaoirc tipped his bottle back for a large gulp while he waited for her reply.
“I’ m going to the City of Stormwind but thought to spend the night here in a sacred place.” She pulled a satchel of herbs from her bags for seasoning the fish. “I’m hoping to find……someone there.” She hoped her search for her lost sister would end there. Perhaps the recognition in the dwarves eyes and the fact that he already travelled with one of the returned dead were a sign that she was finally close to locating her lost twin sister.
“That’s funny, we were heading….” Vanadar’s words were cut short when Crag leapt to his feet, snarling into the darkness.
As they reached for their weapons four dark figures burst from the darkness. She recognized them by their red bandanas. “Defias scum,” she snarled as she pulled her dagger from its sheath. She had heard that they frequented the area. Attacking here on sacred ground was typical of their style.
Vanadar was quick to react and used his fishing pole to knock the staff from one attacker’s hands before he drew a claymore and attacked a second wizard. Myrrin narrowly missed being struck by a frost bolt hurled at her from across the fire as Asaoirc lurched forward with axe in hand to take on an opponent, his bottle still clutched in one hand.
The wizard lost his focus on Myrrin as Cragg snapped at his robes with razor sharp teeth. Before he could strike the animal in return her dagger lashed out and cut a deep gash across his forearm, causing him to drop his wand and giving Cragg the time he needed to rush in a take the man by the throat and finish him quickly.
She turned in time to see Vanadar strike one wizard down but the one the struck with the fishing pole had regained his feet and drew his wand to send a frost bolt into the human’s back. Myrrin let her hands draw an ancient pattern in the air as she called on Elune’s power. A flash of light burst from her fingers and struck the wizard in the chest. His body filled with a strange golden light as he crumpled to the ground and ceased moving.
Asaoirc was already dragging the bodies of his opponent and Cragg’s from the campsite as she quickly assessed their injuries. A few simple prayers and the minor cuts and bruises were healed. By the time the bodies were disposed of and the perimeter was checked to make sure there were no other wizards, she had dinner nearly finished.
“Well I don’t know yet if you can cook Myrrin, but you seem handy enough to have in a fight.” Vanadar grinned as he stretched out near the fire, seizing the bottle of wine to take a drink before Asaoirc could claim it for himself. “Maybe we should all head to Stormwind together just in case we find more trouble along the way.”
“That’s sound like a good plan.” She smiled as she sliced the bread and tossed Cragg a piece of fish. “I have a feeling you two might find trouble often.”
“You have no idea lass..” Asaoirc gave an approving hiccup after tasting the wine, followed by a deep belch. “Eh, what kind of spice did you use on this fish?” Neither of them looked reassured as she just laughed. | |

| To add on where you left off... maybe.
As they approached the gates of Stormwind, Asaoirc and Vanadar stopped suddenly. She took a half step, then looke d back at them. "Why have we stopped? The gates are right there." Asaoirc turned to her as Vanadar rummaged through his pack. "Just a mom'nt, priestess, and we'll be on our way." Vanadar pulled a heavy vloak about his armor and drew it tight, hiding his identity. He moved ahead of them, close enough to be seen, but not in their group. She asked Asaoirc about this strange behavior. "Well, ever since his first visit to Stormwind, he's always hidden hisself, fer protection. You are aware of the arrival of the Death Knights, aye?" She replied. "Of course. An emmisary arrived at our temple and told us that we'd gained a powerful ally in our fight against the Lich King." Asaoirc sighed. He'd obviously heard countless other similar tales. "And tha' be the official story. The truth is somewhat... darker." They stopped just short of the inner gates, Asaoirc leaning against a statue. "Van was one of the first Death Knights sent as ambassadors to Stormwind. Van only just recently told me of his first visit. Steps from the gate, he had been tackled while presenting his papers, and they slapped him in manacles, bringing him before the king, noose already fitted around his neck. If he hadn't had that letter from Fordring, he would've hung from the gallows by the morn." She turned away, saddened by the disrespect the humans of Stormwind showed. "But enough of this dark talk. we've a new friend, and I intend to drink to your health! let us head tot he Blue Recluse. Vanadar will meet us there, I am sure."
After a short stroll through the city, she and the dwarf passed through the mage quarter. “Any luck with that potion, ladies?” Asa asked of a group of young mages congregated in the park. “Not well, unfortunately…” One of them sighed. “Keep tryin’!” Asa laughed back at them, turning to Myrrin. “They be really smitten with Van, something ‘bout him being ‘tall, dark and mysterious’… I don’t pretend to understand it. It’s funny to watch them try.” One of the girls shouted for him to say hello for her as they entered the pub. Myrrin smiled to herself as the dwarf settled into a special chair at the bar. He had obviously been here many times before!
TBC... (Lunch breaks are story time!)
